A golf ball is uniquely designed for playing golf. Its weight is maintained relatively light, and in case the ball becomes too heavy, it is not used for official events.
Its maximum weight is 1.62 ounces as per the Rules of Golf governed by the R&A and USGA. If any balls exceed this weight, it cannot be used in a tournament. Put simply, 1.62 ounces is the safe estimate of weight for any golf ball.
Manufactures are careful in their production to ensure that their golf balls do not exceeding the maximum value.

The above maximum weight helps the ball to navigate through the air without being slowed by the air resistance. Wind will quickly slow a lighter ball.

Diameter
Similar to the weight restrictions, the diameter is also limited to a certain length.
According to the Rules of Golf, the diameter of a golf ball must be at a minimum 1.68 inches. This length must be adhered to, and any ball that fails to meet this standard is disqualified for tournament play.
The advantage of using a ball with a smaller diameter is that the ball becomes easier to hole out. A smaller ball will also have little resistance to air because of the reduced surface area.
Construction
The most important aspect of a golf ball is the material used to manufacture it. The process is strictly monitored to ensure all the standards are meant during construction.
The proper manufacturing of the ball is essential to ensure that no player gets an advantage in the game. However, innovations are being made to maximize distance and ability to control the ball. Should any requirements not be followed, the ball can not be used for official events.
